June - Stone Mountain
By Sweetwater Camera Club
Whether you are a member of the Sweetwater Camera Club or interested in an afternoon and evening photo outing, you are invited to join us tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon for a visit to Stone Mountain Park on the other side of Atlanta. This is a two part field trip. During daylight hours you will find plenty of things to photograph in the park. After dark, there is a 45 minute laser light show across the face of the mountain which ends in fireworks.

There are several options as to how to get to the park. Some of us will meet up in the parking lot of Douglasville City Hall between 4:15 to 4:30 p.m. and carpool. This is highly recommended if you are on a budget, because the entry fee to get into the park is $8.00 per vehicle. It takes approximately 45 minutes up to an hour to drive there.

Once inside the park you will have approximately 3 hours of good daylight left before twilight. It is better to go in the late afternoon during these summer days, because the light show doesn’t start until around 9:30 P.M. and the park tends to be less crowded later in the day.

If you would like to visit some of the attractions inside the park, there is an additional fee for certain events. You can find out more about pricing and events by following these links:

Thanks to Field Trip event coordinator and chairperson Mary Lesh for setting up this event for us. You can practice your low light, special effects and people photography among other things. Mary says that there are many beautiful scenic areas inside the park.

We hope you can make it. You may also meet the group over at the park, either for the late afternoon shooting and/or for the laser light show if you would like to come later to view the 9:30 light show. It is advised that you get there by 8:30 if you choose to do that so that you can find a good place in front of the mountain to settle and claim your space.
