Hello, Sweetwater Camera Club members, visitors and friends . . .
You are invited to join us this Thursday evening, March 10th at 7 p.m. for an evening hosted by one of our outstanding advanced amateur photographers, Erik Peterson. Erik has prepared an in-depth tutorial concerning the processing stages necessary in perfecting your pictures. He will be using Photoshop and plans to discuss Levels Adjustments, Contrast Adjustments, Color Correction, Digital Dodging and Burning and Dual Processing. He has studied these processes extensively and will emphasize the use of Curves in polishing images. Erik will also serve as our photo contest critiquer and contest judge. For the 15 people who took part in our Sweetwater Camera Club scavenger hunt/shootout on February 27th at the Douglas County Library, the contest results will be announced after the critique on Thursday evening. Dominique Chaponot is serving as the Shootout judge for this first of several similar field trip contests we will hold this year. This month’s contest: Something Old, Something New: An image that strongly emphasizes the stark difference between subject matter old and new. For those of you who participated in the shootout, you may also enter 2 field trip prints in the Field Trip portion of our monthly contest. MEMBERSHIP: If you haven’t already done so, please consider joining or rejoining the Sweetwater Camera Club for the calendar year 2011. The cost is minimal, just $20 per individual or $35 per family. You may pay on-line at http://www.sweetwatercameraclub.org/membership or you can pay in person at the meeting. You will need to see SCC Secretary Stella Spyrou when you check in. To enter our contests you must be a member in good standing.
2011 Contest Topics: You can view the contest topics for this year at http://www.sweetwatercameraclub.org/contests/contest-topics-a-descriptions/contests-2011 You can find out more about the contest rules on the web at http://www.sweetwatercameraclub.org/contests . The rules state that you may enter two photos each in the color, monochrome and field trip categories. Attached you will find a proof of the SCC Photo Contest page to appear in the April issue of the Chapel Hill News & Views. Do you have field trip suggestions? If you know of good places for photo field trips, please send suggestions to our field trip chairperson, Dominique Chaponot. We try to schedule most of the SCC field trips inside Douglas County and the Atlanta 18-county metro area to encourage maximum participation with minimal cost in travel, time and admission fees. Before a field trip is suggested or scheduled, please make sure that the venue is “photographer friendly.” Announcements and Workshops: 1. Taste For Douglasville Arts, May 17th. We need volunteers to man the SCC booth on May 17th. Please let us know if you can help. 2. One of our excellent speakers from last year was Marti Jeffers. Marti sent this notice for the SCC: “I have a special offer for the members of the club. As you probably know, I've started teaching my own workshops this year. I have two workshops scheduled for this spring and am working on a couple of others for the fall. For my spring workshops, I have three places left on each workshop. Because of my connection to the Sweetwater Camera Club, I would like to offer the members of the club a $100 discount on either of my workshops for this spring. One of my workshops is in Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens in April and the other is in Santa Fe NM in May. You can read about both of them at: http://www.martijeffers.com/index.php/pages/workshops-new.html.” Thanks, Marti! 3. City of Douglasville “Discover Douglasville” Photo Contest: The Douglasville Convention & Visitor Bureau is holding its first ever photo contest in conjunction with National Tourism Week coming up in May 2011. They are looking for excellent pictures showcasing Douglas County. You can learn more about this at http://www.ci.douglasville.ga.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=107 . 4. Showcase School of Photography: You may view a long list of Adult Education Photography Classes by visiting http://www.theshowcaseschool.com/site/Default.asp?Page=245 5. FYI, the North Georgia Camera Club Council is considering having their 2011 Shootout in the vicinity of the Booth Western Art Museum, hosted by a new photo group called the Booth Photography Guild that has formed there.
